HOW DID OCM GET ITS START?
In July of 2014, Mat Vance set out on a mission to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. He created a charity called "Operation Charlie Mike" in order to raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project and Ovarian Cancer Research (in honor of his mother).
Along the way, friends and family challenged him to hike a certain number of miles before donating to his cause. After starting on Mount Katahdin in Maine, Mat finished just 3.5 months later on Springer Mountain in Georgia (where he celebrated with champagne, of course!) and raised over $7,000.
Not only was his hike a success, but "Charlie Mike" (which Mat defined as "continue mission") became the mantra for him and anyone else who needed a little extra push to power through a tough situation.
If you're feeling like you can't go on, just take a breath, get back up, and "charlie mike."
Instead of letting Operation Charlie Mike end with his hike, Mat has decided to turn it into something more.
The end goal of OCM is to find individuals throughout the country who share similar "charlie mike" stories, and work together to better their communities. (While partnering with awesome business owners to sell a variety of cool products to help get us there.)
In true "Charlie Mike" fashion, the OCM team is ready to continue the mission!
