Mat Vance was born and raised in Virginia. He attended C.D. Hylton HS in Woodbridge, VA, and graduated from Christopher Newport University, earning a BA in English, majoring in interpersonal communications studies.
Mat served over 10 years as both a scout in the U.S. Army and an independent security contractor overseas.
He created Operation Charlie Mike in 2014, when he hiked all 2,185 miles of the Appalachian Trail in 3 ½ months, spanning 14 states from Maine to Georgia, averaging 22 miles a day. He wrote his first book, The Funny Side of War, in 2015 and released it on Amazon. It shows the lighter side of war we don’t often see in movies and other books. He co-authored a second book, The Fire Within: Shedding Light on Trauma, which offers varying perspectives on military life, war, and trauma.
Mat is currently a Product & Tactical Rep for Armoured One, a company specializing in the safety of schools by providing Certified Security Film & Glass, Training, And Safety Planning.
He is a proud father and husband residing in Virginia Beach, VA.
